Changing a Forgotten or Expired Password

The following instructions will walk you thorough the process of updating your forgotten or expired Hamilton College password. The Help Desk highly recommends that you change your passwords while on campus.

If you know your password, please proceed to the following page: Changing a known password .


  1. Go to the Hamilton Password Manager at https://password.hamilton.edu
  2. Click on the option " Reset Password"

  3. Enter your Hamilton username in the box and click Continue.
  4. For the next step, you will have two options. You can either answer your security questions or authenticate using a pincode sent to your registered cellphone number.
    1. Depending on the security question that you chose during the password manager setup process, you will be asked to answer two security questions. Once you have answered the questions. Click  "Continue" to proceed. Proceed to Step 5.
    2. If you have forgotten the answers to your security questions, you can choose the option to authenticate using your registered cellphone number.
      • Select the option Authenticate with SMS (text message).
      • Click the option Send Pin to have the password manager send a pin code to your cellphone.
      • Enter the pin in the space provided and select Continue and proceed to Step 5.
  5. Now you may select a new password that fits all the requirements as indicated by the Password Rules. The password requirements are based on Hamilton College's password policy found here: Password Policy. The requirements will turn green as they're met.
  6. Once you have entered and confirmed a new password, click on Change Password button.

  7. Click Finish on the next page to complete the process.

Important Notice for Faculty and Staff

If you are On Campus:

  • Reboot your computer and login with the new password to ensure that your login password is updated as well. 
  • Update the password on your mobile devices

If you are Off-Campus:

  • If you were off-campus when the password was changed, you will need to bring the computer to the campus to be able to login.
